
The Preah Vihear Massacre (also called Dangrek genocide) is a 1979 incident where Thai authorities forcibly deported tens of thousands of Cambodian refugees, mostly ethnic Chinese, across the dangerous Dangrek Mountains back into Cambodia. Many refugees died from landmines, shootings, dehydration, and disease during the expulsion. The tragedy drew international condemnation and humanitarian intervention, leaving a lasting scar on Cambodian-Thai relations and highlighting the severe humanitarian consequences of border crises following the fall of the Khmer Rouge.
