Un nouveau livre au musée SOSORO pour redécouvrir 2 000 ans d’histoire du Cambodge

À Phnom Penh, au cœur du quartier historique de Daun Penh, le Musée de l’Économie et de la Monnaie Preah Srey Içanavarman – plus connu sous le nom de musée SOSORO – enrichit encore l’expérience des visiteurs avec la sortie d’un nouvel ouvrage illustré dédié à l’histoire du Cambodge. Pensé comme un pont entre les salles du musée et le grand public, ce livre propose une plongée accessible dans deux millénaires d’évolution économique et monétaire du royaume.

Fruit d’une collaboration étroite avec le SIPAR, maison d’édition cambodgienne de référence engagée dans la promotion de la lecture et la lutte contre l’illettrisme au Cambodge, l’ouvrage, intitulé en français Promenade au Musée de l’Économie et de la Monnaie Preah Srey Içanvarman (Musée SOSORO), reprend les grands thèmes de l’exposition permanente du Musée SOSORO dans un format clair, pédagogique et abondamment illustré. Destiné aux lecteurs de tous âges, il retrace près de 2 000 ans d’histoire, des anciens réseaux commerciaux du Funan jusqu’au Cambodge contemporain, en mettant en lumière le rôle de la monnaie et des politiques économiques dans la vie quotidienne.

Lancé officiellement dans les jardins du musée en présence de représentants des secteurs culturel et éducatif, le livre se veut à la fois compagnon de visite et introduction générale au patrimoine historique cambodgien. Il permet aux voyageurs curieux, aux étudiants et aux familles de prolonger leur découverte bien au-delà des vitrines du musée, en leur proposant un support richement illustré qui raconte l’histoire du pays à travers ses monnaies, ses crises, ses renaissances et ses choix politiques.

Disponible en khmer, en anglais et en français, l’ouvrage s’adresse aussi bien aux publics locaux qu’aux visiteurs internationaux en quête de contenus fiables sur l’histoire du Cambodge. On peut se le procurer à la boutique du musée SOSORO – installé dans un élégant bâtiment colonial proche du Wat Phnom (en) – ainsi qu’auprès de SIPAR, qui diffuse ses publications à travers tout le pays. Pour celles et ceux qui préparent un voyage culturel à Phnom Penh, ce livre constitue une excellente porte d’entrée pour comprendre comment l’économie, la monnaie et la politique se tissent dans la trame de l’histoire cambodgienne, avant ou après une visite au musée.
