Picture of the day: Pandanus Fruit by the Kampot Sea

High above the seaside path near Kampot, this ripe pandanus fruit glows like a lantern against the coastal sky, a quiet marker of Cambodia’s tropical shoreline. Known as fragrant screw pine (Khmer: រំចេកសមុទ្រ rumchek samot), Pandanus odoratissimus thrives along sandy beaches, its spiny leaves sheltering wildlife and sea‑breeze wanderers. For Khmer communities, these resilient pandanus trees whisper of salt air, monsoon tides, and everyday life lived between land and sea.
