The nāga (Khmer: នាគ neak), a multi-headed serpent spirit, is the legendary ancestor of the Khmer people whose union with an Indian prince forms Cambodia’s national origin myth; naga sculptures adorn temples like Angkor Wat and represent protection, royal legitimacy, water, and the blending of indigenous and Indian traditions in Khmer identity.
