This ruined sandstone building at Preah Khan of Kampong Svay is often described as a “library,” but its original function remains uncertain and unproven. Scholars suggest it may have served as a small sanctuary or annex structure within the sprawling temple-city rather than a confirmed repository of texts. Today its mossy blocks, collapsed stones and forest backdrop create an evocative scene that invites visitors to imagine the many roles such enigmatic shrines once played in Khmer religious life.
