In the Khmer adaptation of the Ramayana, the Reamker, the mighty monkey general Hanumān (ហនុមាន) meets and falls in love with the mermaid princess Sovanna Maccha (សុវណ្ណមច្ឆា, also known as Maccha មច្ឆា), daughter of Ravana, during the construction of the bridge to Lanka. This statue, located at the entrance of Kdei Daem Pagoda in Kampong Thom, depicts Hanuman seeking to win Maccha’s heart.
