Areca fruit (Khmer: ស្លា sla), produced by Areca catechu, is an ovoid drupe with a fibrous husk enclosing a single hard seed known as the betel nut. Native to Southeast Asia, this palm grows up to 20m and thrives in warm, humid climates. The fruit contains alkaloids such as arecoline, which have both ecological significance and human uses.
