The sandstone lintel at Prasat Neang Khmao in Takeo province catches the eye with its swirling vines and mythic guardian, glowing warm against the dark brick tower. This 10th century Khmer carving, linked to the era of King Jayavarman IV, preserves the classic Koh Ker style that once spread across the southern plains of Cambodia. Standing beneath it today, you feel both the intimacy of a village pagoda and the reach of an ancient Hindu kingdom dedicated to Shiva and Brahmanic worship.
