Looking for a comfortable overnight stop between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, or a base to explore Sambor Prei Kuk and the temples of Kampong Thom? Kampong Thom Royal Hotel combines modern facilities, a large pool and friendly Khmer hospitality right in the center of Kampong Thom City (Steung Sen).

Kampong Thom Royal Hotel is one of the most established modern hotels in Kampong Thom (Steung Sen) City, the provincial capital of Kampong Thom. Opened as a newly built property with local investment, it was designed from the start to offer 4‑star comfort, conference facilities and a large swimming pool in a city that long had only basic guesthouses. Located in Phum 2, just off the main road through town, it is easy to reach by bus, taxi or private car and works well as an overnight stop between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap or as a base for exploring Sambor Prei Kuk.

The hotel has around 80-90 rooms and suites in a contemporary Khmer style, with polished floors, heavy wooden furniture and neutral colors. Rooms are soundproofed and come with air‑conditioning, blackout curtains and free Wi‑Fi, which many guests highlight as stable enough for work and streaming. Rooms include a TV with cable channels, a fridge, tea and coffee facilities, and an in‑room safe, while higher categories can add a separate sitting area or better views over the pool and surrounding town. Bathrooms are generally modern, rooms include bathrobes, hairdryer and toiletries.

Where Kampong Thom Royal Hotel really stands out is its leisure facilities. There is a large outdoor swimming pool with a separate area that feels like a second pool, a welcome sight in the hot season and a rarity outside the main tourist hubs. Guests can also use the fitness center, sauna, steam room, hot tub and spa services, making it a comfortable place to unwind after a day on dusty provincial roads. The hotel has its own restaurant and bar, along with a sky bar concept on the rooftop, which may appeal to Cambodian travelers looking for evening entertainment beyond a simple beer garden.

For business and events, the property includes conference rooms and meeting spaces that serve workshops, provincial meetings and private celebrations. This also means it can be busy on weekends or during wedding season, which gives the hotel a lively local atmosphere rather than a pure tourist feeling. The front desk operates 24 hours and can help with luggage storage, basic tour arrangements and onward transport, while parking and accessible parking are available for those arriving with their own vehicle.

Guest reviews often praise the friendly staff, good value for money and the sense that this is “probably the most luxurious place to stay” in Kampong Thom at the moment. Overall, if you want a modern hotel with a proper pool, spa facilities and central location in Kampong Thom province, Kampong Thom Royal Hotel remains one of the most practical and comfortable choices.
