A “pratip” (Khmer: ប្រទីប) in Cambodia refers to beautifully decorated candle-lit boats used during the Water Festival, known as Bon Om Touk. These boats are floated along rivers at night as part of a traditional ceremony celebrated in Phnom Penh and other cities to mark the reversing flow of the Tonle Sap River. The brightly illuminated pratip create a stunning spectacle, symbolizing tribute to the water spirits and gratitude for abundant fishing and rice cultivation. Small-size pratips are prepared by families.
