Sericulture was probably introduced to Cambodia as early as the 12th or 13th century, becoming an art deeply woven into its cultural heritage. The precious silk threads are drawn from the cocoons of silkworms, whose lives depend on the tender leaves of the mulberry tree. In the photograph above, the larvae can be seen busily feeding, storing the energy they will soon transform into luminous cocoons—a patient prelude to the creation of silk.
