Siem Reap is adding new cultural experiences for visitors with a series of free performances designed to bring Cambodia’s living heritage into public spaces. Starting September 18, 2026, the Cambodia Tourism Board will introduce its Cultural Pop-up Show initiative, giving travelers another way to experience Cambodian culture beyond the temples of Angkor.
The program will take place every Friday and Saturday and will feature two important Cambodian art forms recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity: Kun Lbokator, Cambodia’s ancient martial art, and Lkhon Sbek Thom, the country’s traditional large shadow theatre. The performances offer visitors an opportunity to encounter Cambodian traditions through movement, performance, storytelling and artistic expression.
Kun Lbokator will be performed at the Terrace of the Elephants from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Admission will be free. The schedule and location for Lkhon Sbek Thom will be announced later through the Cambodia Tourism Board’s social media channels. The initiative will bring performances to key visitor areas around Siem Reap, including the Angkor Archaeological Park and the town itself.
The concept takes inspiration from the modern pop-up experience. Rather than keeping traditional performances inside dedicated cultural venues, the shows will appear in places where travelers are already exploring. This creates opportunities for unexpected encounters with Cambodian heritage and adds a more dynamic element to a visit to Siem Reap.
The initiative also aims to strengthen Siem Reap’s evening tourism offer. By providing more things to see and do after the main temple visits, the program could encourage travelers to stay longer, explore more of the city and spend more time at local businesses. The Cambodian Hotel Association’s Siem Reap chapter has welcomed the initiative and expressed support for expanding similar activities to additional locations across the city.
For Siem Reap, the project is about more than adding entertainment to the tourism calendar. It reflects a broader effort to present the destination as a place where Cambodia’s cultural heritage remains part of everyday life. Visitors can explore the ancient world of Angkor while also encountering traditions that continue to be practiced and performed today.
With cultural performances extending into the evening, Siem Reap is offering travelers another reason to linger after sunset. The combination of ancient monuments, living traditions, local communities and a growing range of experiences gives the city an opportunity to develop its identity as a vibrant cultural destination in its own right.
