The sea snail pictured below (genus Canarium) is called in Khmer ខ្យងស័ង្ខតូច [khchâng sâng toch]. It’s an edible marine snail found in the Indo-Pacific region, including Cambodian coastal waters. Its shell is valued for ornamentation and used as a fishing net sinker, while the snail itself is a source of food for local communities. In recent years, concerns about overfishing and population declines have led to recommendations for sustainable harvesting of this important species.
