Grown along the Mekong on Koh Trong island, in Kratie, this pomelo (Kh: ក្រូចថ្លុង) develops very large, heavy fruits with thick rinds and juicy, sweet–mildly tart segments. The Kratie climate and alluvial soils help concentrate aroma and sweetness, making the flesh excellent eaten fresh, in salads, or with a dip of salt and chili. As one of the ancestral citrus species, Citrus maxima from Kratie is prized locally both as a festive offering and as a refreshing snack on hot days.
