Discover Cambodia’s soulful tradition of sung storytelling — where melody, wisdom, and humor intertwine in the enduring art of Chapei Dang Veng.

Chapei Dang Veng (Khmer: ចាប៉ីដងវែង) is a traditional Cambodian musical art combining lute performance with lyrical storytelling. Its songs convey education, wit, moral reflection, and social commentary through poetry and improvisation. This oral tradition preserves Khmer language, culture, and community bonds across generations. Once vibrant, it now faces decline due to loss of masters and disrupted transmission after the Khmer Rouge era. It was inscribed in 2016 on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding by UNESCO.
