This intricately carved sandstone frieze depicts the Pancha Tathagata (Khmer: បញ្ចតថាគត), or Five Wisdom Buddhas, seated in meditation within arched niches. Located at Prasat Damrei, a temple within the vast Preah Khan Kampong Svay temple complex, it dates to the Khmer Empire’s Mahayana Buddhist period (11th-12th century). The sculpture symbolizes the transformation of defilements into wisdom, highlighting ancient Cambodia’s blend of Hindu-Buddhist artistry.
