Makara (Khmer: មករ [mâ-kâ] or ម្ករ [m’kâ]) is a mythical sea creature often represented in Cambodian architecture and temple carvings, typically shown as a hybrid with the body of a crocodile, elephant trunk, and ornate features. In Khmer culture, Makara sculptures are found on temple lintels and doorways, serving as powerful guardian motifs and sometimes shown with other creatures emerging from their mouths.
