Star apple, or caimito (Chrysophyllum caimito, Khmer: ផ្លែទឹកដោះគោ, milk fruit), ripens quietly in Cambodian backyards, its violet or green skin hiding a cool, milky heart. On the plate, the flesh opens in soft white and lilac layers, a tender contrast to the tropical heat. This simple still life celebrates a favorite “milk fruit” snack, caught between market basket and family table in today’s Cambodia.
