Picture of the day: Clerodendrum inerme: A Coastal Evergreen Beauty

Clerodendrum inerme is a hardy evergreen shrub prized for its delicate white flowers with long, purple-tipped stamens. It thrives in tropical coastal areas, where it tolerates salt spray and pruning remarkably well. Often used as a hedge or groundcover, it brings both ornamental value and erosion control to seaside gardens. Traditionally, Clerodendrum inerme leaves, fruits and roots are used in Ayurvedic and other folk medicines to treat inflammatory skin diseases, rheumatic and joint pain, cough, fever, and various infections, though safety and efficacy still require rigorous clinical validation.
