Kong vong thom (គងវង់ធំ) and kong vong toch (គងវង់តូច) are essential Cambodian percussion instruments featured in the Pinpeat ensemble, with both consisting of a semi-circular frame holding sixteen bronze gongs. Kong vong thom is the larger instrument, producing deeper tones to enrich ensemble harmony, while kong vong toch is smaller, yielding higher pitches and often plays more melodic roles that complement other instruments like the roneat ek. Both are constructed with rattan frames and suspended gongs, tuned using a mixture of lead and beeswax to achieve their distinctive sounds.
